LAS VEGAS (AP) - Authorities say they’ve placed mixed martial arts fighter War Machine on suicide watch after he apparently tried to kill himself in his Las Vegas jail cell.

Las Vegas police say a corrections officer spotted the inmate, whose birth name is Jonathan Koppenhaver, with a piece of cloth tied around his neck and attached to his bunk bed Tuesday night.

Police say the 32-year-old Koppenhaver was struggling to breathe, so the guard cut the cloth from his neck. First responders said Koppenhaver’s vital signs stabilized shortly after, and he was moved to an isolation cell where he could be monitored.

Jail officials say they found a suicide note in the cell.

Koppenhaver faces charges including attempted murder for an alleged attack on his ex-girlfriend, adult film actress Christy Mack.
