LOWELL, Ark. (AP) - Highway crews will close southbound lanes on Interstate 49 near Lowell in northwestern Arkansas next week so it can wrap up paving work before cold weather moves in.

The crews had hoped to do the work this weekend but the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department pushed back construction because of the War Eagle Craft Fair, which draws thousands to the area.

The lane closures will be in effect overnight beginning Sunday night at 8 p.m. Lanes should be open by 6 a.m. the next morning. The work should continue throughout the week And if it cannot be completed, crews will return on the night of Oct. 26.

Highway officials say crews are repaving the two outside lanes. Northbound work was done Oct. 3-5.
