CONCORD, N.H. (AP) - A New Hampshire man who accidentally shot his best friend to death in 2011 has been granted parole.

Christopher Bazar had pleaded guilty to manslaughter, admitting he killed 29-year-old Donald St. Laurent in the Hudson apartment they shared. Prosecutors said Bazar was drunk and high when he shot his friend in the head with a shotgun he knew was loaded.

He served nearly three years in prison of his four-to-10-year sentence when the judge suspended part of his term in September, allowing him to seek parole. Hillsborough County Attorney Patricia LaFrance said Bazar has been punished and rehabilitated.

It’s not clear when Bazar will be released from prison.

St. Laurent’s parents have supported Bazar since shortly after their son’s death.
