EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) - Michigan officials are hosting a gathering next week aimed at helping stem the use of heroin and other illegal drugs in the state.

The state’s first Heroin Summit takes place Monday at the Kellogg Center in East Lansing.

Hosted by the Michigan State Police, officials are working with the Michigan Department of Community Health and the Michigan Department of Education on the effort.

According to the state police, about 450 people are invited to hear presentations and take part in panel discussions. Officials also plan to use the event to share information about resources that are available to assist those who abuse narcotics.
