PHOENIX (AP) - Authorities have released the names of a suspected north Phoenix bank robber who was fatally shot by a witness and another suspect who was arrested.

Two masked, armed men allegedly robbed a Desert Schools Federal Credit Union about 2:15 p.m. Wednesday and were confronted by a witness while leaving with a garbage can full of money.

Phoenix police say that after a struggle, the witness shot one suspect, who was pronounced dead at a hospital.

They say the second suspect stole car but was arrested after crashing the vehicle into a house.

Police say the man fatally shot was 29-year-old Lyndell Cherry.

They say 21-year-old Vincent Jones is being held on suspicion of armed robbery, kidnapping, aggravated assault and other charges.

It was unclear Thursday if Jones has a lawyer.
