PHOENIX (AP) - Authorities say a suspect is in custody in connection with the shooting of two women who were walking down a Phoenix street.

Phoenix police say a 23-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene about 4:15 a.m. Friday.

They say a 31-year-old woman is being treated for multiple gunshot wounds and is hospitalized in stable condition.

The names of the two victims haven’t been released yet.

Police say 28-year-old Franklin Clifton was located around the corner from the shooting.

They say Clifton is not talking about the shooting, but they believe he is known to the victims and it may be a drug-related incident.

Investigators will try to get information from the surviving woman in the hospital.

It’s unclear if Clifton has a lawyer yet.
