POLKTON, N.C. (AP) - An inmate at a prison in Polkton is facing multiple charges after authorities say he assaulted an administrator.

The N.C. Department of Public Safety says Thomas Michael Accardi is charged by the State Bureau of Investigation with attempted first-degree murder and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury.

Accardi faced a magistrate in Anson County Friday morning, one week after the assault on administrator David Mitchell at Lanesboro Correctional Institution.

Accardi is being held on a $500,000 bond and has been moved to Polk Correctional Institution.
