DETROIT (AP) - The head of the U.S. Small Business Administration is visiting Detroit to visit small businesses owned by women and highlight their achievements.

SBA Administrator Maria Contreras-Sweet will also discuss how the agency is trying to help in Detroit’s recovery during her visit Friday and will deliver keynote remarks at the American Arab Chamber of Commerce Gala.

She plans to host round-table discussions with female and immigrant entrepreneurs as well as minority chambers of commerce.

Contreras-Sweet was sworn into President Barack Obama’s cabinet in April. She previously helped found a private equity firm that provided money to small California businesses and later helped start ProAmerica Bank, which helped small and medium-sized businesses. She also was secretary of California’s Business, Transportation and Housing Agency.
