ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - Federal prosecutors say the owners of an upstate New York trucking business have pleaded guilty to illegally collecting more than $400,000 in government benefits.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office in Albany say 53-year-old Scott Bornt and his 50-year-old wife, Geri Mondlin-Bornt, pleaded guilty earlier this week to Social Security fraud.

Prosecutors say the couple from Gloversville admitted to making false statements to the Social Security Administration to obtain disability insurance benefits payments to which they weren’t entitled. Officials say the couple didn’t disclose income earned from their trucking business.

Bornt received nearly $315,000 in fraudulent payments over six years, while his wife received more than $88,000 over seven years.

They face up to five years in prison and fines of up to $250,000 when they’re sentenced Feb. 9 in federal court in Albany.
