LAKEWOOD, Wash. (AP) - Police in Lakewood, Wash., say they found a 19-year-old woman fatally shot when they responded to an apartment in the Tacoma suburb.

The News Tribune reports (https://is.gd/IrfWtC ) that Lt. Chris Lawler says neighbors in the apartment complex called 911, telling police they heard a gunshot Thursday evening and a man told them he accidentally shot his wife.

Lawler said police were interviewing the 20-year-old man. Neither he nor the victim was identified.

The spokesman says the man reportedly told one neighbor that he had been cleaning his rifle when it accidentally fired, hitting his wife.

Lawler says neighbors found the man distraught in a hallway and called for help.
