HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - Former Gov. M. Jodi Rell says Democratic Gov. Dannel P. Malloy’s economic policies have hurt the state and she is endorsing GOP gubernatorial candidate Tom Foley in the Nov. 4 election.

Rell says in a news release from the Connecticut Republican Party that the state needs to get out from under one-party rule and notes that Foley, a Greenwich businessman, has 35 years of experience in the profession.

She criticizes the Democrat-controlled Legislature and Malloy for tax increases that she says have “acted like a brake on the economy.”

Malloy’s campaign has said that the governor and lawmakers raised taxes on income and sales to help cover a projected budget deficit inherited from previous administrations.

Rell’s comments were included in a longer letter to the Journal Inquirer in Manchester.
