GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) - Authorities say they have new information in the 1987 murder of a disabled veteran whose body was found in a Glendale cemetery.

Investigators believe people who witnessed the murder of 54-year-old Orison “Jim” Chafin may still be alive and live in the area.

Glendale police say Chafin was found brutally murdered in the early morning hours on Aug. 8, 1987, in the Resthaven Park Cemetery.

Investigators say his throat had been slashed and there were only socks on his body when it was found.

Police say Chafin was last seen about midnight leaving a Glendale bar the night he was murdered.

The motive for the killing remains unclear.

Chafin served in the Navy and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
