MIAMI (AP) - A Louisiana soldier who had been stationed in the Florida Panhandle died two days after his unit was attacked by small arms fire in Afghanistan.

The U.S. Department of Defense says Sgt. 1st Class Andrew T. Weathers of DeRidder, Louisiana, died Tuesday at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany. He had been wounded Sunday in Helmand Province, Afghanistan.

Weathers was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 7th Special Forces Group (Airborne), Eglin Air Force Base, Florida.
