BOSTON (AP) - Prosecutors say a 19-year-old Boston University student has been charged with driving his Maserati sports car an estimated 100 miles per hour in the rain in Boston’s Back Bay area.

Zeguang Xu was released on $1,000 bail Thursday after pleading not guilty to charges including speeding, driving without a license and giving a false name to police.

Prosecutors said police saw the blue Maserati GranTurismo speeding on Beacon Street Wednesday afternoon in a densely populated area where the speed limit is 30 mph. Police said the driver ran a red light before they caught up with him.

Police said Xu first told them the car belonged to a friend and gave them another person’s name, but they discovered it was his car and he was driving without a license.

Xu’s attorney declined to comment.
