NORTH GREENBUSH, N.Y. (AP) - State police say a 25-year-old upstate New York man has been charged with kidnapping after authorities say he took a woman to western Massachusetts and raped her.

Troopers say Shane Harding of Schodack (SKOH’-dak) in Rensselaer (rehn-suh-LEER’) County was arraigned Wednesday night in Town of North Greenbush Court.

Authorities say Harding on Tuesday forced an acquaintance to drive him from Troy to Hancock, Massachusetts, where he raped her. They returned to Troy, where the woman contacted police after Harding let her go.

Police say Harding forced a male acquaintance to drive him to Saratoga Springs, where he was caught on the Skidmore College campus Wednesday morning.

Harding is being held in the county jail without bail. It couldn’t be determined if he has a lawyer.

Harding is expected to face rape charges in Massachusetts.
