TAHLEQUAH, Okla. (AP) - Authorities in Tahlequah have identified a woman who was killed by a tree that fell on top of a home as she was sleeping inside.

Authorities say 55-year-old Rebecca Van Bibber of Tulsa was visiting her son Tuesday and was asleep in a bedroom when the tree fell on her son’s home. Tahlequah Fire Chief Ray Hammons says a dog was also killed by the falling tree.

The son was in a different part of the home and wasn’t injured.

Hammons tells the Tahlequah Daily Press (https://bit.ly/Zv5wyZ ) that an infestation of termites may have caused the tree to fall. He says there were no high winds or stormy weather at the time that could have knocked the tree down.
