LOS ANGELES (AP) - A woman was fatally shot in the head during a botched robbery in Los Angeles early Thursday and authorities were searching for several suspects, police said.

Officers responded to a report of shots fired shortly before 3 a.m. on North Kenmore Avenue in east Hollywood, Sgt. Michael Mabie said.

Witnesses told detectives the victim was apparently robbed by two to three men who ran off after shots rang out.

The victim was taken to Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center. She was pronounced dead shortly after 5 a.m.

Mabie said it appeared to be a robbery gone bad. No suspects were immediately identified.

Police said it’s too early to determine whether the victim was targeted and whether anything was stolen.

The woman’s name was not immediately released.
