MADISON, Wis. (AP) - University of Wisconsin System officials say roughly the same number of students have enrolled for the fall semester as last year.

System officials say preliminary figures indicate 179,017 students have enrolled for the 2014 fall semester. That’s down about 0.4 percent from last fall’s 179,828 students.

The number of new freshmen, however, dropped 2.2 percent. The number of graduate students is up 0.3 percent.

UW-Madison, the system’s flagship campus, saw 42,926 students, up from 42,903 last fall. UW-Milwaukee’s enrollment was 28,010, up from 27,784. UW-Green Bay saw the biggest drop in enrollment among all 13 four-year schools, from 6,667 students last fall to 6,166 this fall. That’s a 7.5 percent decrease.
