KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) - Vietnam veterans who took part in a failed raid on a North Vietnamese prisoner of war camp are gathering in Kansas City.

Veterans of the Son Tay raid will reunite Friday at the Westin Hotel. The veterans tried to rescue more than 50 U.S. prisoners of war believed held at the camp in 1970, but they arrived after the prisoners had been moved.

Retired Air Force Col. Lee Ellis will be among the people attending. Ellis’ plane was shot down in 1967, and he spent the next five years as a prison of war alongside Arizona Sen. John McCain in Hanoi and surrounding camps.
