WEST POINT, Miss. (AP) - West Point is spending $170,000 to add the McCharen Field airport to the city’s sewer system.

The project is funded by a 90 percent Federal Aviation Administration grant, 5 percent from the state and 5 percent from the city.

Chief Administrative Officer Randy Jones tells The Daily Times Leader (https://bit.ly/1ufUidb ) Perma Corporation of Columbus is the contractor for the project.

Jones says the project will add the hangars and the pilot’s lounge to the city sewer system, replacing septic tanks.

Jones says the airport property and the adjacent property will be served by the sewer system, making it more attractive to commercial development.
