DANVILLE, Va. (AP) - Danville police have charged the driver of a car that caused another vehicle to hit a Danville school bus.

Police say an 11-year-old girl on the bus suffered minor injuries and was taken to a hospital.

Police say in a news release that a vehicle stopped behind the bus was hit in the rear by a car driven by 24-year-old Kiara Adkins. The impact forced the vehicle into the bus.

The bus had left GLH Johnson Elementary School and was unloading students when the accident occurred Wednesday afternoon. Henderson says about 20 children were on the bus at the time.

Police charged Adkins with driving on a suspended operator’s license and failure to maintain proper control of her vehicle.
