AURORA, Colo. (AP) - The man shot during a police search in Aurora has been identified as a fugitive who walked out on his trial last week.
The Arapahoe County Coroner on Monday identified the man as Clifton Williams. Williams was found guilty in a 2011 kidnapping and attempted sexual assault on Thursday, but he had already skipped out during a lunch break two days earlier.
According to KMGH-TV (https://tinyurl.com/p7yw7jv ), police say they got a tip that a wanted Denver County fugitive was seen inside a vacant home. Officers surrounded the house and a short time later an officer saw someone trying to climb a fence.
Police say they heard a gunshot and found a man lying on the ground suffering from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The man later died at a hospital.
