CHICAGO (AP) - Cook County authorities say an 18-year-old woman has died after being shot by a stray bullet while sitting in a Chicago apartment.

Police say Alexandra Burgos was killed early Sunday in the Belmont Cragin neighborhood on Chicago’s Northwest Side. The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed her death.

Police say she was sitting in an apartment when gunshots from outside struck her in the head. They say she was taken to an area hospital and pronounced dead around 1:30 a.m.

Burgos’ family members tell WFLD-TV she went to the apartment to pick up her brother from what they believe was a party there.

No arrests have been reported.
