LAS VEGAS (AP) - A search for the next president of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas has narrowed to three people.

The finalists were announced Monday during a meeting of the school’s board of regents and presidential search committee.

They include Georgia Regents University President Dr. Ricardo Azziz, dean Len Jessup of the University of Arizona Eller College of Management, and UNLV Executive Vice President and Provost John Valery White.

The Las Vegas Sun reports Nevada System of Higher Education Chancellor Dan Klaich chose the candidates from a pool of 16, with help from the board and Jerry Baker of executive search firm Baker and Associates.

The candidates are vying to replace former UNLV president Neal Smatresk, who left the school in 2013 to head the University of North Texas.
