ALMA, Mich. (AP) - A 24-year-old football player at a small Michigan college faces a misdemeanor domestic violence charge in an incident involving a girlfriend.

Ron Johnson was arraigned this month. The Alma College offensive lineman also is charged with malicious destruction of personal property and being disorderly in a campus residence hall.

Gratiot County Prosecutor Keith Kushion says Tuesday his office authorized the warrant against Johnson on Oct. 10. A pretrial conference is scheduled Oct. 28.

Kushion says the case involves a “couple that had a dating relationship and it turned physical.”

Alma communications director Mike Silverthorn says Johnson is enrolled as a student, but is not on the football roster.

The Associated Press could not find a telephone number for Johnson. Alma College is about 105 miles northwest of Detroit.
