AUBURN, Ala. (AP) - Auburn coach Gus Malzahn says safety Jermaine Whitehead has been reinstated to the team.

Malzahn said Monday that Whitehead has returned to practice after a four-game suspension for unspecified violations. The fifth-ranked Tigers play South Carolina on Saturday night.

Malzahn wouldn’t say what Whitehead had to do to be reinstated to the team, or when he might get back on the field.

Josh Holsey has started the past four games at safety. Holsey is fourth on the team with 26 tackles.

Whitehead’s suspension was announced on the eve of the Kansas State game. The two-year starter had 12 tackles and two interceptions through two games.
