LAS VEGAS (AP) - A state court judge in Las Vegas set $1 million bail for an alleged pimp accused of torturing and beating a woman so severely she had a finger amputated and needed skin grafts.

Clark County District Court Judge Abbi Silver also called Tuesday for a hearing to determine the legitimate source of any money that 28-year-old Robert Sharpe III would post for release from jail pending trial on charges including kidnapping, assault and sex trafficking.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports (https://bit.ly/1wmCZG1 ) that Sharpe’s appointed lawyer, Steven Lisk, called the bail amount excessive.

Prosecutor Marc Schifalacqua (shif-ahl-AHK’-wah) says Sharpe kept the woman captive for eight weeks before leaving her nearly dead June 30 near a Las Vegas hospital.

The woman told police she was beaten, burned and nearly drowned by waterboarding.
