HACKENSACK, N.J. (AP) - Prosecutors in Bergen County have charged a Paterson code enforcement officer with child endangerment after they say he took a 12-year-old boy to a motel.

South Hackensack police stopped and questioned 53-year-old Daniel Vergara of Paterson on Sunday. Authorities say Vergara did not have permission from the boy’s guardian to take the child to the motel.

Vergara is held on $75,000 bail.
