ELKO, Nev. (AP) - An Elko County man has been sentenced to up to five years in prison for firing a gunshot through the window of his ex-wife’s home.

The Elko Daily Free Press reports (https://tinyurl.com/ou2u6ak) 53-year-old Lane Shelton of Pilot Valley originally was charged with attempted murder in the April shooting.

He pleaded guilty in August to assault with a deadly weapon and possession of a gun by an ex-felon as part of a plea bargain agreement.

Shelton said he never intended to harm his ex-wife. He said they recently had reconciled but when she threatened to leave again, he was desperate and drunk so he resorted to shooting at her window.

District Judge Nancy Porter sentenced him Monday to five years with the possibility of parole after two, and fined him $4,000.
