COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - Independent candidate Tom Ervin has taken out $3.4 million in loans in his bid to be South Carolina’s governor.

In campaign finance documents released this week, Ervin reported raising just $100,000 from others since beginning his campaign. As of Oct. 10, he had $1.2 million in the bank to spend during the rest of the campaign.

Gov. Nikki Haley reported her best fundraising quarter ever from July to September, bringing in $1.2 million. She has $1.4 million left to spend. During her bid for re-election, the governor has raised nearly $8.2 million and spent $6.7 million.

Democratic challenger Vincent Sheheen had his best fundraising quarter bringing in $800,000. He has $577,000 in his campaign account for the final weeks of the campaign and has raised $3.5 million for this race.
