JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - The state Court of Appeals has upheld the murder conviction of a Jackson man in a 2009 fatal shooting outside a convenience store.

Court records show Michael Anderson was sentenced to life in prison without parole in 2012 in Hinds County in the death Drystle Sanders. Authorities say Sanders was shot multiple times outside the convenience store.

Anderson argued the shooting was in self-defense. He said Sanders began hitting him with a gun and during the assault dropped it. Anderson says he picked up the gun and shot Sanders.

The Appeals Court said Tuesday there was no evidence that Sanders was armed during the confrontation. The court there also was no evidence that Sanders was aggressive toward Anderson or anyone else at the store.
