AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) - A Maine committee charged with studying the impacts of ocean acidification on the state’s environment is expected to issue a draft of its recommendations.

The Maine Ocean Acidification Study Commission is meeting on Tuesday in Augusta to finish the draft. A spokeswoman says the commission will likely make a final vote on the recommendations Nov. 12. The 16-member council will report findings to the state legislature’s Marine Resources Committee.

The panel is studying the effects of ocean acidification on ecosystems and shellfisheries. State officials say the commission is the first of its kind in the eastern United States. The officials have said the panel’s report will focus on the environmental and economic impacts of ocean acidification.
