BARTOW, Fla. (AP) - A central Florida man has been sentenced to 22 years in prison for his part in a fatal shooting.

As part of a deal with Polk County prosecutors to avoid a first-degree murder trial and possible life sentence, 21-year-old Charles Pandolfo pleaded guilty Monday to second-degree murder.

Authorities say Pandolfo and 24-year-old Alex Baez lured 21-year-old Jose Manuel Santos to a Davenport orange grove in November 2012 to kill him. Santos’ body was found in a shallow grave five days after his family reported him missing.

Prosecutors say Baez and Pandolfo killed Santos because Santos was in an abusive relationship with Pandolfo’s sister. Officials weren’t sure which man actually shot Santos in the back of the head.

The Ledger (https://goo.gl/tGDfDF) reports that Baez was convicted of first-degree murder last week and faces a mandatory life sentence.
