MUSKEGON, Mich. (AP) - Whitehall police say a second teenage passenger involved in an August crash has died.

Police said Monday that 16-year-old Colton Wood died Sunday. He had been hospitalized since the single-vehicle crash in Whitehall on Aug. 28. Fifteen-year-old Makalia Stever-Knapp also died in the crash.

Police say the driver, 18-year-old Jordyn Garza, admitted he drove down an alley and accelerated to about 45-50 mph. They say he admitted to running a stop sign and making no effort to brake before losing control and hitting a utility pole and tree.

Garza was charged with reckless driving causing death and reckless driving causing serious impairment. Police say the Muskegon County prosecutor will likely amend the charges following Wood’s death.

Police say alcohol and drugs are not believed to be a factor.

Garza was released on $10,000 bond.
