CLARKSBURG, W.Va. (AP) - A Shinnston man has pleaded guilty to a neglect charge stemming from the suffocation of his 3-month-old son.

Media outlets report that 32-year-old Clovis McCoy Jr. pleaded guilty to child neglect resulting in death on Monday. Harrison County Circuit Court Judge John Marks is awaiting a pre-sentence report before accepting the plea.

McCoy’s wife, 27-year-old Tricia McCoy, faces charges of child neglect resulting in death and child neglect creating a risk of injury.

Police say the couple’s son, Zaiden, suffocated in April while sleeping with Tricia McCoy. Police say the woman had taken two prescription drugs, one of which was given to her by her husband.

Police say Clovis McCoy knew his wife was impaired when he left her alone with the baby and his twin sister, who wasn’t harmed.
