GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (AP) - Spectrum Health and Pennock Hospital in Barry County are entering into merger talks.

The Grand Rapids Press reports (https://bit.ly/123ug2d ) Pennock Health’s board of directors signed a non-binding letter of intent to begin discussions with Grand Rapids-based Spectrum Health.

If an affiliation agreement is reached, it is unclear what will happen to plans for a new $70 million Pennock hospital near Hastings. Pennock says a new master facility plan would be created to determine whether that hospital project moves forward.

In addition to the 49-bed Pennock Hospital in Hastings, the Pennock system includes eight primary care physician offices, and three specialty clinics for women’s health, general surgery and orthopedics along with a health and wellness center and two pharmacies.
