AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) - Maine students are casting their ballots for governor and representatives in Washington in a mock election.

Students from more than 125 schools are expected to participate in the “Rally and Tally” event at the Augusta Armory on Wednesday.

They’ll hear from First Lady Ann LePage, Democratic candidate for governor Mike Michaud and Secretary of State Matthew Dunlap.

Students will also vote in the races for governor, the U.S. House of Representatives and on seven referendum questions. They’ll collect the results by phone and on the Internet and send them to the national mock election.

The goal of the event is to get students excited about voting and help them learn about political issues and the electoral process.
