LAKELAND, Fla. (AP) - A central Florida man was found dead in his home following a fire.

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office reports that firefighters responded to the Lakeland home Tuesday morning. After the fire was extinguished, authorities say 60-year-old Henry West IV was found in his bedroom. Investigators discovered evidence of recent smoking in the room, which was wear the fire apparently started. The state Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating, and an autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday.

West’s son and mother - 21-year-old Chism West and 82-year-old Joan West - escaped the fire without serious injury. They were treated at the scene by paramedics.
