CLAYTON, Mo. (AP) - A 61-year-old St. Louis County man has been sentenced to 30 years in prison after pleading guilty to using a laptop computer in his wife’s beating death.

William Lynn Gunter of Town and Country pleaded guilty Monday to second-degree murder in the March 2013 death of 55-year-old Suzanne Ball Gunter. The couple had been married three decades and had two children.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch (bit.ly/1vNgzji) reports that Gunter initially told police that he found his wife unconscious from a fall down the stairway in their home. He was initially charged with first-degree murder.

County prosecutors said Gunter, an insurance agent, was involved in an extramarital affair and having financial problems when he killed his wife. His attorney says Gunter will be eligible for parole in about 11 years.
