FOREST CITY, Iowa (AP) - Winnebago County in northern Iowa has doubled its bounty on beavers to $50.

County supervisors say an aging trapper who had kept the beaver population in check retired because of his physical limitations.

Mason City television station KIMT reports (https://bit.ly/1uE6HUA ) that beaver dams can cause damaging floods.

Officials say anyone turning in a beaver tail to claim the bounty has to prove the tail came from Winnebago County.
