PAGOSA SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) - The Wal-Mart store under construction in Pagosa Springs will be among the smallest in the retail chain but it will still be the largest store in the southwestern Colorado town.

The Durango Herald (https://bit.ly/12bDFVF ) reported Wednesday that the 94,000-square-foot store is expected to open in March and bring in about $1 million a year in sales tax revenue.

A group of residents campaigned against the store fearing that it could hurt the character of the small town. But officials say having a Wal-Mart in town will prevent those tax dollars from going to Durango, which has a Wal-Mart.
