CAMERON, La. (AP) - U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service personnel will conduct prescribed burns Wednesday on the Cameron Prairie National Wildlife Refuge.

KPLC-TV reports (https://bit.ly/1nypOlQ ) impoundment Units 3A, 3B, 4 and their associated levees will be closed to the public, including archery white-tailed deer hunters. As a safety precaution, archery hunters must stay away from the burn areas, but are permitted to hunt in alternate locations within the refuge hunt area.

Prescribed burns are a commonly used habitat management tool. They help reduce the potential for wildfires, control invasive species and restore ecosystems.
