NATCHEZ, Miss. (AP) - Natchez officials say the city’s new development code will be streamlined, easier to use and less reliant on bureaucracy.

Phil Walker, the consultant and former Natchez city planner who was hired to help clean up the code, presented the proposed plan at a work session for the city aldermen Tuesday.

Mayor Butch Brown tells The Natchez Democrat (https://bit.ly/1uDZgN4 ) the changes will allow more uses within the city’s various zoning districts but also respects what is already there.

City Planner Frankie Legaux says the proposed changes also allow for more administrative approvals of new developments, meaning fewer projects will have to go before the Natchez Planning Commission,

While the proposed codes incorporate some changes, a major aspect of the project was to clean up the existing code.
