SKOWHEGAN, Maine (AP) - Police say a grenade found at a motel in Skowhegan was a toy.

Part of the Towne Motel was evacuated on Tuesday after a maintenance worker found the device wedged between the building and an oil tank and alerted authorities.

The Maine State Police bomb squad removed the object and determined it was a toy grenade.

Police arrested and charged a man with criminal trespass after he tried to get past the yellow police tape at the scene and refused to cooperate with officers, who tackled and handcuffed him.

Meanwhile, they say it’s unclear who put the toy grenade there or why. They continue to investigate.
