RAPID CITY, Mich. (AP) - Authorities are investigating after a mother was found dead in her Rapid City home with her young daughter inside.

Authorities said Tuesday 32-year-old Elizabeth Meiser was found on Oct. 12. The Kalkaska County Sheriff’s Office says it’s unclear how long the toddler was in the home with her mother’s body. Authorities say Child Protective Services placed the girl with a family member.

Meiser’s father, James Plank, tells the Grand Rapids Press he hasn’t been able to determine where his granddaughter is staying since then. He says he believes his daughter died of a drug overdose.

Plank says authorities informed him his granddaughter was inside the home with her mother’s body for about two days because she wasn’t discovered right after her death.

Authorities say foul play isn’t suspected in the death.
