SARATOGA, N.Y. (AP) - A town along the upper Hudson River is getting nearly $370,000 from a federal grant to design and construct a multi-use trail along a canal.

Officials at the National Park Service’s Saratoga National Historical Park say the town of Saratoga will use the grant from the Federal Lands Access Program to build a 1.5-mile trail along the Old Champlain Canal.

The section of the Champlain Canalway Trail will run south from the Schuyler House in the village of Schuylerville to a road of Route 4, where it will link to another segment of the trail. The entire trail will run from Waterford to Whitehall on the Vermont border, a span of 58 miles.

The Champlain Canalway Trail links the park’s town of Saratoga sections with the Saratoga Battlefield in the neighboring town of Stillwater.
