BARBOURVILLE, Ky. (AP) - Two Knox County jail employees have been charged with striking a physically helpless inmate.

A Knox County grand jury on Friday charged deputy jailers Sheila Brown and Jennifer Ross with criminal abuse, official misconduct and assault charges.

Grand jurors say the pair abused Tammy Spicer earlier in October by striking her. WYMT-TV in Hazard reported (https://bit.ly/1sY3Vvn ) that Brown and Ross placed Spicer in a situation that might cause her serious injury or by causing torture, cruel confinement or cruel punishment while in custody of the duo.

It was not immediately clear if Brown and Ross had attorneys.
