ARDEN-ARCADE, Calif. (AP) - The California Highway Patrol says three people died when an SUV hit a bicyclist before crashing into a tree and bursting into flames in the Sacramento area.

The crash occurred shortly before 2:30 p.m. Thursday on a city street in Arden-Arcade. CHP spokesman Officer Chad Hertzell tells the Sacramento Bee (https://bit.ly/1ytVtWy) the 2008 Chevy Tahoe drifted to the left across traffic lanes and hit the 53-year-old bicyclist, who was not wearing a helmet.

The SUV then ran over the bike and hit a tree before bursting into flames. Witnesses pulled the driver and passenger out of the vehicle. They and the bicyclist died. None of them was immediately identified.

Hertzell says the CHP is trying to determine whether alcohol was a factor in the crash after alcoholic beverages were found in the SUV.
