BAY MINETTE, Ala. (AP) - An Alabama woman has been sentenced to 20 years in prison after she was convicted in the 2009 stabbing death of her brother.

Al.com reports (https://bit.ly/1DJ386g ) 30-year-old Maleya McMillan of Fairhope was sentenced about two months after a jury convicted her of murder in August. The victim was her 22-year-old brother, Mustafa McMillan.

Police said the victim and his mother had been arguing about his chores when the sister intervened and a fight broke out. The siblings’ mother called 911 and police arrived to find Maleya McMillian lying next to her brother in a pool of his blood.

The woman’s attorney, Willie Huntley Jr., unsuccessfully asked a Baldwin County Circuit Court judge to reverse the verdict. He argued there wasn’t enough evidence to support a conviction.
