CARPENTERSVILLE, Ill. (AP) - A 50-year-old mail carrier has been hospitalized after she was attacked by a pit bull in Carpentersville.

The owner says his dog broke through a screen door early Thursday afternoon. He says he ran outside after the dog and found the mail carrier on the ground.

Police say the mail carrier had injuries on her arms and head. She was taken to a local hospital.

Commander Erman Blevins of the Carpentersville Police Department says the dog was caught by animal control. He says the dog was taken to an animal hospital for observation.

Police are still investigating and deciding whether to charge the dog’s owner.
